The Board



Kevin has spent his career working in Africa, helping companies develop and grow their local businesses. After gaining his BSc Economics, MBA and MSc in Finance from the University of Leicester (England), he moved back to Mauritius and worked for Ernst and Young, Deloitte and KPMG in corporate finance and business consultancy before moving to the pan-African advisory and investment-banking boutique, Loita Capital Partners Group, based in Johannesburg. There he assisted clients with their fundraising activities (in multiple sectors including banking, telecoms, commodities, and logistics) in various countries including Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zambia.

In 2007, Kevin joined the private equity house Actis Capital LLP as part of their Africa Real Estate team. Kevin spent 6 years as a director of Actis Africa Real Estate Fund, the first private equity real estate fund to invest in and develop A-grade properties in SSA. He led the exits of Accra Mall (the first A-grade retail property in Ghana) and Capital Properties (the first A-grade office property in Tanzania) to completion to offshore buyers, setting the benchmark for exits in both West and East Africa. His experience at Actis Capital LLP covered retail, office, mixed use, logistics / industrial and hospitality asset classes. Since August 2013, Kevin is the founder CEO of African Land Investments which has restructured with Atterbury Africa forming AttAfrica Limited based in Mauritius. The company’s objective is to invest in retail centres/malls across key countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. Its portfolio currently consists of Manda Hill Shopping Centre, the biggest retail in Lusaka (Zambia), Accra Mall, the biggest retail in Accra. In addition, the portfolio consists of 3 malls under constructions in Ghana. Kevin also sits on various boards of companies such as Blue Life Ltd, a listed property company on the Mauritius Stock Exchange and 2 Centara hotels in Mauritius.


Renier van Rensburg
Chief Finance Officer

Renier joined the Atterbury Group in April 2012 as CFO of the newly formed Atterbury Africa Fund. He qualified as a CA(SA) in 1999 and completed his articles with Ernst & Young. Since completing his articles he has held various senior management and executive positions. He spent most of his time in the medical and property developed industries. Here he has been responsible for managing various administrative departments and fulfilling the role of CFO. He has a keen interest in supporting and mentoring of employees to reach their organizations’ goals. He has extensive experience in mergers, acquisitions, structuring and implementing of new projects.



Wynand finished his articles at Deloitte and qualified as CA (SA) in 2009. He then joined the corporate division at Famous Brands Ltd, where his main responsibilities were group- reporting and tax. He was involved in the restructuring of the group and mergers and acquisitions. He joined the Atterbury Group in 2011 as group finance manager of Atterbury Investment Holding Ltd, before moving to the Africa division in 2013.


Mark Korten
Attorney Korten Consulting Ltd

Mark is a specialist (locally and internationally) in tax and commercial law having gained over 18 years of experience. He has extensive expertize in considerations, negotiations, mergers, acquisitions, corporate restructuring, shareholder agreements, leases and service agreements. Mark has two degrees, the first a Bachelor of Commerce, with majors in Accounting and Economics and a Bachelor of laws from the University of Cape Town as well as a High Diploma in Tax Law. He has given valuable insight to clients on legal issues, fund management, financial services, labour broking and commodity exploration in Africa. He is the co-founder of Korten Hipener Faber Goërtz and is involved in entrepreneurial ventures such as his company called Resourcing for Africa.

Mark immigrated to Mauritius in 2008, where he remains a permanent resident. He is one of the first foreign attorney’s to be licensed under the regulation laws of Mauritius. Mark is practising as an independent advisor and international tax consultant for Korten Consulting Ltd as well as acting as director for Mauritius-based companies. Mark is a member of the exchange control and tax matters committee at the Law society of South Africa and he is a member of the South Africa-Mauritius Chamber of Commerce. He has been published and lectures at the University of San Diego as well as seminars.


James Ehlers
Managing Director – Atterbury Property Developments

James graduated from the University of Pretoria in 1992 with a BSc (Building Management). After graduating he worked in the construction and development business before heading up the development division of Atterbury Property in 2002. Under his leadership, Atterbury Property Developments evolved from a relatively small company to the award-winning international property development company that it is today.

Atterbury Property Developments has developed in excess of 900 000m² of commercial and retail space in the last 10 years and has won no less than 8 PMR Diamond Awards for “Best Developer” in South Africa. James was instrumental in initiating the expansion of Atterbury into a number of African Countries resulting in the establishment of the Atterbury Africa Fund. Major projects are currently underway in Mauritius, Ghana, Zambia, Namibia and Mozambique.


Chief Executive Officer

Pieter previously held the position of CEO of Hyprop for seven years from 2002 to 2009. He was re-appointed to the position with effect from 1 May 2011. A quantity surveyor, he has been engaged in every aspect of property development, management and finance for over 20 years, having worked previously at Sanlam Properties, Standard Bank Properties and ABSA Commercial Property Finance.



Morné is a qualified industrial engineer who obtained his B.Eng.(Honours) Industrial degree from the University of Pretoria. Leading Attacq’s strategy to list on the JSE, Morné has extensive experience in property development, property investment, property finance, corporate restructuring and acquisitions. Morné spent 10 years in the Property Finance Division of First National Bank and Rand Merchant Bank (both divisions of FirstRand Bank Limited) where he excelled as a top dealmaker. Morné then led the strategic roll-out and development of the Waterfall business estate in Midrand for Attacq before joining Attacq in 2009 as Chief Operating Officer. Morné was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer in 2011.



Bilal Sassa, holds a Bachelor of Commerce Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. He also holds a Stock broking licence from the Financial Services Commission since 1999. Bilal joined Cim Stockbrokers in 2001 as Financial Analyst where he became General Manager in 2005. In June 2008 Bilal was appointed General Manager of IMM before taking over the role of Chief Sales & Marketing Officer of Global Businesses at Cim. Bilal was also a Director on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius between 2004 and 2010 and has been a Director of Central Depository & Settlement Co. Ltd between 2004 and 2009.



Sandeep Fakun is a Fellow of the Chartered and Certified Accountants of UK and a full member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners of UK. He started his career in the Public Sector and then moved to De Chazal du Mee & Co where for 8 years he worked on several audit and consultancy assignments for companies ranging from manufacturing, distribution, agricultural, banking and insurance. Prior to joining the Cim Group in December 2008, Sandeep has worked as consultant for Multiconsult Ltd and as Director - Trust and Company administration for Simcocks Trust (Mauritius) Limited where he was extensively involved in the structuring, setting-up and administration of Global Business entities. Sandeep is now involved as a Senior Manager in the Corporate Services Team of Cim Global Management and also acts as director on the board of several client companies.
